Scrapbooking, as we all are aware of, is such an extremely popular hobby. One of the benefits and enjoyment of this is that it can be shared with the entire family. Once you get bitten by the scrapbooking bug, you can very easily become addicted to this fun pastime, and soon you’ll be looking for new scrapbooking layout ideas.
Think of an occasion or special event in your life. Gather together your photos and design your page(s) around that particular theme. Choose scrapbook papers that will coordinate with that theme. Add embellishments (there are so many to choose from), stickers, punch-outs, etc. Post a little journaling next to your photos, and you will create a memory of a special event for all who views it to enjoy.
I may be telling my age, but when my boys were born, mothers as a rule didn’t consider making a scrapbook, at least in the sense of the ones made today. We bought what was called simply a ‘baby book.’ The contents were pretty much pre-written, and we (mothers) just filled in the spaces with our answers or remarks and added a photo or two.
There was a space to paste a photo of the baby at birth and blank lines to fill in the date and time of birth, weight and length of the baby at birth, plus various other pertinent information. Of course, we always included a footprint and a lock of hair. If I remember correctly, a record of shots and immunizations was listed in this book along with various happenings over the first few years of life.
It is fun to go back and browse through our children’s baby books and although we have a number of photos scattered around the house which were taken throughout the years, how nice it would be to have it all arranged in an orderly scrapbook. (Now that sounds like a great project, but at this stage in life, it’s one that I probably won’t get to.)
Scrapbooking is such great fun, a hobby with great rewards. It involves making a visual memory (in album form) of the activities and experiences of one’s life while interacting with family and friends. It is a permanent way to keep cherished memories alive and also to pass them on to future generations.
Most of us enjoy looking through photo albums, but photos alone do not give us the complete story. Creative scrapbookers can take a photo (or several photos), add a bit of journaling, and a few other embellishments, and tell us a complete story of a special event on a page or two.
If you tap into your imagination or just look around, you can come up with all sorts of scrapbooking ideas. Any item – new car, new home, your dog, new motorcycle, 4-wheeler, even a bicycle – can be the theme or subject for a scrapbook page.
Along the same lines, any event or occasion such as a birthday party, Halloween party, Christmas party or dinner, Thanksgiving get-together, graduation, baptism, family reunion, birth of a baby, etc., etc. all are occasions for creating new pages for your scrapbook.
You more than likely can design a page or two around any thought that might occur to you.
Scrapbooking as a hobby has become quite a sensation, not just in America, but all across the world. Besides the beautiful memories being created for present and future generations, the time spent scrapbooking is a very enjoyable time.
It seems to be a natural pastime for the person who enjoys taking a lot of photos. Any creative person who enjoys working with his or her hands certainly can find fulfilment in crafting a scrapbook album. With the vast variety of scrapbooking supplies available, due to the immense popularity of the craft, beautiful pages can be created to commemorate important or not-so-important occasions.
You may even want to have a scrapbooking party and share great ideas.
